MOVING! (to a new site)

I’m so excited that my new site is up and running now. I’ll be making all future posts at www.drawingsarah.com. See you there!

Rose Week - Watercolor Sketching

I tried to go even more loose with this rose. I didn’t sketch it with pencil beforehand. I just sketched with my brush.

Rose Week - Pink Rose

For this rose, I wanted to try a more loose approach. Inspiration here.

Rose Week - Illustration Friday Topic - Wool

I did it. I found the happiest little lamb I’ve ever seen for the “wool” topic for Illustration Friday. But, of course, I also wanted to incorporate a rose somehow. So I decided that there probably is a little girl that loves this lamb very much and would tie a beautiful rose around her neck. Every little lamb needs to be dressed up, right?

Rose Week

I have a declared it to be rose week. Ok, not really, but I’m on a rose kick and decided that it should be the theme this week. :) Should be interesting to see how I can fit “rose” and “wool” together since the Illustration Friday topic this week is “wool.” Hmmm.

Rose #1 was inspired from this gorgeous (and hard to believe that color is for real) rose from here.

Fashion Fridays - Pretty Shoe

I saw this pretty shoe on Pinterest. It was labelled Christian Louboutin but I can’t find an original source so I’m not sure. Still SO pretty. :) Wish I could walk in heels!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s Valentine’s day and I’m so excited to give my love the card I made for him. I was kind of stumped on a gift for him this year. Yesterday it dawned on me that he could really use a new winter coat. Since it won’t be here today, I printed out a picture of it and glued it to the card, under an illustration of a wrapped gift that he’ll life up to see his present.

I illustrated a little “Hank the Lion” cartoon for his card. It says, “This is Hank… This is Hank’s girlfriend. This is Hank in love. Any questions?” Hank the Lion is kind of a running joke with us. I got him a stuffed “Hank” for our first Easter together and he took Hank with him on a vacation with him. So, at the time, I was “Hank’s girlfriend.” I posted a couple pictures of the front and back of the card and then what the card looks like opened up. I hope he likes it!!

Happy (early) Valentine’s Day to Me!

Last night my hubby gave me my V-day present early. He said it wasn’t a romantic present but I beg to differ (of course, I’m a graphic designer so I what I sometimes think is romantic probably differs from most girls). He gave me a Canon CanoScan 9000F scanner! I am beyond thrilled. I have been so frustrated trying to scan watercolors and getting them to look even close to what I’ve actually painted. Watercolor produces such beautiful effects that I just couldn’t capture. The mediocre HP scanner that we owned finally broke and I bought a small, portable scanner, thinking it would do the trick but that didn’t work well either. I decided to post a side-by-side comparison. The shoe on the left was scanned by my Magic Wand Scanner and on the right is the Canon. I’m not sure how well the differences will show up here but I was pretty impressed. Makes me want to rescan all of my artwork! My man did good!!!

Coffee Love

All you need is love and coffee, right?

Illustration Friday - Storm

It’s Valentine’s week and I’ll admit it, I’ve always been a sap for Valentine’s day. Which is very out of character for my non-sappy self. So for Illustration Friday’s topic Storm, I wanted to give it a love theme. It’s a storm and it’s raining love!
